About QC Sawmill in Rock Island, IL

Local Sawmill and Custom Woodworking Serving Rock Island and the Quad Cities

QC Sawmill is a locally owned sawmill and custom woodworking business serving Rock Island, IL and all surrounding areas. We transform trees that might otherwise be hauled away into functional furniture and custom wood products, giving local homeowners and property owners a way to preserve and repurpose trees with sentimental or practical value.

Our focus is on sustainability and making the most of natural resources. Instead of watching a tree from your property end up in a landfill or as firewood, you can have it milled into lumber, dried properly, and built into something you'll use for years—a dining table, shelving, mantels, or other custom pieces that carry the story of where they came from.

We handle the entire process in-house, from milling logs to kiln drying lumber to building finished products. That means you work with one team from start to finish, and we control quality at every stage. When you see the grain patterns and character marks in the final piece, you're seeing the actual tree that stood on your property or in your neighborhood.

How QC Sawmill Started: From Unwanted Trees to Functional Furniture

QC Sawmill started from a simple idea: unwanted trees don't have to become waste. Whether a tree is being removed for safety reasons, storm damage, or property development, the wood inside often has beautiful grain and structural integrity that makes it perfect for furniture and woodworking projects. We saw an opportunity to connect people with the lumber from their own trees and turn local wood into custom pieces.

We're based in the Quad Cities area, serving Rock Island and surrounding communities including Davenport, IA and Bettendorf, IA. This region has a mix of hardwood species—oak, walnut, cherry, maple—that mill into excellent lumber. Trees that grow here develop dense wood from seasonal temperature swings, which translates to durability and rich color variation once the boards are planed and finished.

Our hands-on experience with milling, drying, and building gives us insight into how different species behave at each stage. We know which logs will yield the most usable lumber, how long specific thicknesses need in the kiln, and how grain direction affects stability in a finished table or cabinet. That experience means fewer surprises and better results when we're working with wood from your property.

Sustainability isn't just a value we talk about—it's built into how we operate. Maximizing what we get from each log, using sawdust and offcuts responsibly, and giving customers an alternative to imported lumber all reduce waste and keep resources local.

Custom Wood Products Built From Start to Finish

When you work with QC Sawmill, you're involved in the process as much or as little as you want to be. Some customers bring us logs and request specific dimensions for their own projects. Others want a finished piece of furniture and trust us to handle design and construction. We accommodate both approaches and everything in between.
